Aki Nagasaka
artist; doctoral researcher, school of creative media, city university of hong kong
Aki is interested in learning skills, wisdoms, and worldviews held by individual human and more-than-human beings and communities through her personal encounters and collaborations. Using storytelling and other artistic media, she tries to represent how our living world exists, by dynamics of dependent origination and arising among all beings and entities.
As a doctoral researcher, supported by the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme and partially by the Hokkaido University Cross Institutional Joint Research Program, Aki is conducting her art-practice-led research on the situated ecology in Hokkaido. She tries to grasp the unique ecological situation of the island by gathering facts from different wisdom and knowledge holders including people of Ainu heritage, independent practitioners, and researchers in science and anthropology.
In recent years, Aki has been conducting art projects in Japan (Nara, Tokyo, Akita, Hokkaido) and Europe (the Netherlands and Italy). Her works are in the collections of MAMbo - Museum of Modern Art, Bologna and Nara Prefectural Library and Information Center.
